After storms delayed work on the 61 affordable units at Providence Landing in Vandenberg Village, the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission approved Wednesday a modified calendar detailing when all of the development's homes need to be completed.
When the development was initially approved, the commission required Capital Pacific Homes to finish the affordable units in the first two phases of construction, before all of the market-rate homes were completed.
However, heavy rain delayed construction on the affordable units last year, because they are situated in an area requiring a large amount of fill material. This in turn delayed the completion of the homes by four months, which was a hardship for the developer.
Commissioners agreed Wednesday to allow the developer to complete the market-rate homes in phase three, but not sell any others until the affordable units were finished.
Jay Higgins of Capital Pacific Homes agreed to the conditions, and said that the company accelerated the rate of completion and planned to have all 61 affordable units completed by late August.
