Cyclists pedaled in place Saturday to raise funds for cancer research at PedalFest 2008 at the Union Bank of California branch in Solvang.

Riders of all ages donated $5 to ride for a minimum of five minutes on a stationary bike with Union Bank of California, AEG and the Amgen Tour of California each donating $1 for every mile pedaled. Funds will go toward Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer Initiative.

The fundraiser is one of many 2008 Amgen Tour of California events in the Santa Ynez Valley leading to the stage 5 time trial in Solvang Feb. 22.

On Monday, Toyota-United team cyclists Ivan Dominguez and Jose Manuel Garcia will attend a 2 p.m. assembly at Solvang School for fourth- through sixth-graders. Additionally, the Health Net team is scheduled for a visit at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to promote bike safety and the health benefits of cycling.
