Lompoc Police Department

Police responded to 168 calls for service, including the following:

€ The felony arrest Saturday of Victor Angel Nava, 18, 500 block North First Street, on suspicion of violating probation, and assault with a deadly weapon. Bail denied.

€ The felony arrest Saturday of Michael Anthony Gasca, 33, 1200 block East Walnut Avenue, on suspicion of violating felony parole. Bail denied.

€ The felony arrest Saturday of Jimmy Munoz, 19, 1200 block Primrose Court, on suspicion of violating felony parole. Bail denied.

€ The felony arrest Monday of Javier Hernandez, 26, 1300 block West College Avenue, on suspicion of violating probation, and misdemeanor failure to pay a fine. Bail denied.

€ The felony arrest Monday of Jared Scott Winter, 18, of Goleta, on suspicion of grand theft. Bail $20,000.

€ Five misdemeanor arrests, under the influence a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous weapon; DUI; disorderly conduct, alcohol; driving while license suspended; disorderly conduct, alcohol.

€ Vandalism - vehicle, 4:06 p.m. Friday, 1700 block North A Street; 4:09 p.m. Friday, 700 block North G Street.

€ Vandalism - school, 10:53 a.m. Saturday, 600 block West North Avenue.

€ Hit and run - no injury, 11:01 a.m. Saturday, 400 block North L Street.

€ Burglary - vehicle, 11:53 a.m. Saturday, 900 block West Laurel Avenue; 6:45 a.m. Monday, 600 block North Fourth Street.

€ Battery, 2:46 p.m. Saturday, 1100 block East Cypress Avenue; 8:10 a.m. Monday, 100 block South H Street.

€ Traffic collision - minor injury, 6:12 p.m. Saturday, East North Avenue and North E Street.

€ Assault with a deadly weapon, 11:13 p.m. Saturday, West Ocean Avenue and North N Street; 1:35 a.m. Sunday, 1300 block West Airport Avenue.

€ DUI, 12:39 a.m. Sunday, 2500 block North H Street.

€ Disturbance - fight, 1:11 a.m. Sunday, 300 block North M Street; 1:36 a.m. Sunday, 100 block West Ocean Avenue; 2:36 a.m. Sunday, 200 block West North Avenue; 11:55 p.m. Sunday, 300 block North X Street; 2:51 a.m. Monday, 600 block North Fourth Street.

€ Traffic collision - no injury, 1:04 p.m. Sunday, 2000 block North H Street; 2:22 p.m. Monday, 800 block West Ocean Avenue.

€ Vandalism - residence, 6:38 p.m. Sunday, 700 block North F Street.

€ Under the influence of drugs, 10:54 p.m. Sunday, 200 block West Maple Avenue.

€ Prowler/Peeping Tom, 1:58 a.m. Monday, 800 block North O Street.

€ Burglary - commercial, 11:41 a.m. Monday, 300 block North K Street.

DUI checkpoint announced

Lompoc police will conduct a checkpoint Sunday to locate people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and driving with no license or while their license is suspended. Drivers found in violation of DUI or license laws can expect to be arrested and have their cars impounded.

The checkpoint is funded through a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Local Explorers attend national conference

Lompoc Police Department Explorer Post 700 sent six explorers along with two explorer advisors to the National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference in Fort Collins, Colo., last month.

The six Explorers competed in team competitions including Arrest and Search Techniques, Shoot/Don't shoot, and Hostage Negotiations. The explorers also had an opportunity to compete in individual events including a Police Physical Performance Testing, 9mm Pistol Competition, and a Police Written Examination. The explorers attended college level seminars which included Bomb Investigations, Leadership Development, Self-defense, Fugitive Investigations, and Psychological Profiling.

The six Lompoc Explorers ranked in the top 10 percent Nationwide in the Hostage Negotiation Scenario.

Local businesses, including Wal-Mart and the Lompoc branch of Coast Hills Bank donated to the Explorer program to help fund the trip.
