Around the Lompoc Valley

Lompoc YFL Fundraiser

The Lompoc youth football league is holding a raffle to give away a 2008 Honda Civic LX Coupe in order to replace several pieces of valuable equipment that were damaged at the beginning of the season. The equipment is required in order for the group to remain part of the Central Coast Football Association.

The storage shed at Ryon Park was overrun by rats, which chewed through and ate portions of football equipment — including the lining of helmets, shoulder pads and hip pads.

The equipment must be upgraded and up to league standards by January 2009 in order for the LYFL to continue to compete against teams throughout the area.

The goal is to sell 1,500 tickets at $20 each. If the goal is met, the league will not only be able to purchase the necessary equipment, but to also set aside $1,000 in scholarship money that will allow underprivileged children to play.

The LYFL will be at the Wal-Mart parking lot on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. selling tickets and the auto will be on display. Tickets are also available at Rose’s Embroidery, 726 No. H St. during regular business hours.

The drawing will be held at Lompoc Honda on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
