Coastal Valley Orchid
Society - CVOS monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Lompoc Public Library in the Grossman Gallery. The meeting will consist of a talk presented by two CVOS members who will be speaking on one of the great orchids that grows exceptionally well on the California Central Coast and is a great hybridizer, Laelia anceps.
The guest speakers will be Gene Baum and Phil Rietz. Laelia anceps, a native of Mexico but also occurring more rarely in Guatemala and Honduras, is one of the most common, yet one of the most satisfying orchids. Its ease of care makes it an ideal plant for the beginner as well as the connoisseur.
Laelia anceps is noted for being one of the best plants, in subtropical climates, to naturalize on trees around the garden, where regular garden watering is usually adequate.
The evening's plant table will also consist of several forms of Laelia anceps that will be discussed during the evening.
For more information, call Phil Rietz 736-3020, or visit www.
