Toys for Tots
The Marine Corps Reserve 2008 Toys for Tots campaign is in full swing. Donors are asked to give new, unwrapped toys valued at $10 or more for children up to age 13. Monetary donations are also welcomed payable to Toys for Tots-Lompoc, and mailed to the Dorothy Jackson Center, 501 North W St. Toys will be distributed from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 20. Volunteers are also needed for assisting in registration and toy distribution. To volunteer, call 742-2943 and ask for Denise.
Mural coverlet available
The Friends of the Lompoc Library has announced the fourth edition of the Murals of Lompoc coverlet. The 48- by 68-inch coverlets will feature new local murals and will be available early this month. Pre-orders at $65 each may be placed with Fran Houston at 875-8784. Order forms are also available at the chamber office. A sample coverlet is now available for viewing at the library.
A Christmas festival
The Lompoc Valley Master Chorale will present its holiday concert “A Christmas Festival” Friday and Saturday. Concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 925 North F St. Tickets are $15 for adults $12 for students.
Step back in time
The Lompoc Valley Historical Society announces that the historic Fabing-Mckay-Spanne House, built in 1875, will host its annual Victorian holiday open houses from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 and 20. A unique, one-of-a-kind jewel tree will be featured in the home's front parlor. This tree, covered in vintage jewelry, took 11 years to complete. The Fabing-McKay-Spanne home is at 207 North L St. Admission is by voluntary donation. For special group tours, call the Historical Society message line at 735-4626.
Join the Parade
Don't forget the Children's Holiday Parade on Friday, starting at 6 p.m. at Pine Avenue and H Street.
After the parade, awards will be announced and the lighting of the community Christmas tree will take place in Centennial Square at Cypress Avenue and South H Street. Dancers from the Lompoc School of Dance will be on hand to perform before the awards ceremony. Contact the Parks and Recreation office for parade entry forms: 875-8100.
Cypress Gallery open house
The Cypress Gallery, home of the Lompoc Valley Art Association, will host its annual Holiday Art Show from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Holiday Art Show is a great opportunity to find unique handcrafted gift items, original work of local artists, and creative holiday decorations. The Holiday Art Show will be presented until Dec. 29. Cypress Gallery is at 119 E. Cypress Ave. and is open Tuesday through Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
Holidays Pops concert
The Pops Orchestra “Magical Holidays” concert will be held Sunday at the First United Church, 925 North F St. Two concerts will be featured, one at 4:30 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. General admission is $15. Children 12 and under and students are $5. Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce.
Music association presents 2 concerts
The first is a Music Celebration of Christmas to be held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in Centennial Park, corner of H Street and Cypress Avenue. Bring a chair and enjoy the free concert performed by Lompoc musicians.
The second concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Valley of Flowers United Church of Christ, 3346 Constellation Road. The music will feature Celtic and Early music. Tickets are $14.
Light-up-a-Life
Marian Hospice will hold its annual Light-up-a-Life Ceremony of Remembrance and Celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Centennial Square, Cypress Avenue and South H Street. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Bethany Lutheran Church, 135 South E St.
Hospital Home Tour
Tickets are now on sale for the Lompoc Hospital Foundation Home Tour and Candlelight Tea from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. View four Lompoc Valley Homes decorated for the holidays and participates in a candlelight tea at the Hickory Street Café. Tickets are $25 and are available at the Chamber of Commerce and most financial institutions.
