Free Thanksgiving meal offered

Lompoc Valley Community Kitchen (LVCK) will sponsor the free annual city-wide Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, at La Purisima Catholic Church parish hall, 219  W. Olive Ave.

Anyone wishing to help defray expenses can call Doreen at 735-8711 or 717-0242. This dinner is dedicated to the memory of Allen Overton, one of the founders of LVCK.

School board set to meet today

The Lompoc Unified School District Board of Education will hold a special meeting today at 5 p.m. at the district office, 1301 North A St., to discuss the manner and time frame for filling a vacancy on the board.

Board member Tim Moncier announced his resignation from the five-person board on Tuesday.

Free concert offered Sunday

Lompoc First Assembly of God Church will host a free youth concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at 213 North J St. The Love Tech Tour featuring Pilot for Kite and Bright Light Parade, with special speaker Luke Mills, will precede the concert. Free pizza and drinks will be offered after the show.

Raffle to benefit Toys for Teens program

The Sons of the American Legion Vandenberg Squadron No. 125 will sponsor a raffle to help raise funds for a new program called Toys for Teens.

The squadron will sell tickets for $20 for a chance to win a 1993 Harley-Davidson with a RevTech 110 engine. Tickets may be purchased at the Whistle Stop, The Party Shop and American Legion Vandenberg Post No. 125 Clubroom, upstairs in the Veterans Memorial Building.

The drawing will be held on Super Bowl Sunday, during halftime, at the Whistle Stop, 805 W. Laurel Ave. Only 500 tickets will be sold, and the winner does not need to be present.

Giant garage sale to be held Saturday

Queen of Angels Catholic Church will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday (weather permitting) at 3495 Rucker Road, Mission Hills.

Featured at the sale will be Christmas decorations and trees, Levi jeans for $1, winter jackets, sweat shirts, clothing, Beanie Babies, cribs, bicycles, exercise equipment, puzzles, books, furniture, etc.

CHS Band’s popular fundraisier returns

Cabrillo High School Marching Band’s popular “Poinsettias for a Song” fundraiser returns for the holiday season.

Groups of musicians from the award-winning Conquistadors will play music as they deliver poinsettias to offices or homes.

Sales begin today and each poinsettia is $15. Delivery will be Dec. 18 for businesses and Dec. 19 for residences.

Family holiday show offered in Dec.

Lompoc Civic Theatre presents “Fruit Cakes” as its Holiday Show 2009, in December at the Civic Auditorium at 217 South L St.

Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and active military and $5 for children under 10 years of age.

Anyone who brings a can of food to donate to the Food Pantry will receive $1 off ticket price at the box office.

Historical Society to hold open house 

The Lompoc Valley Historical Society will host its annual holiday open houses at the Fabing-McKay-Spanne House  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 27 and 28 and Dec. 5 and 6 at 207 North L St.

The historic Victorian home will be fully decorated for the holidays in the style of the early 1900s. The blacksmith shop, reference room, museum room and carriage house will also be open. Admission is by voluntary donation.

Benefit to be held at Howlin’ Byroon’s

Howlin’ Byroon’s Music Exchange will host a Toys for Tots benefit at 7 p.m. Saturday at 107 South H St. The three bands featured are The Only Ocean, Good Morning Monday and Victory in the Pacific.

Cover charge is $3. Two dollars of the cover charge will be donated to Toys for Tots, and any donation above cover charge will be accepted.
