Winter World Bazaar set for Saturday
Soroptimist International of Lompoc will host its annual Winter World Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club,
1025 W. Ocean Ave.
People can sign up at the Angel Tree Project table to give a gift to local senior. VIVA and other local vendors also will be available. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Soroptimist International of Lompoc supports the Rape Crisis Center, Lifeline, Friends of the Library and more.
Legion Auxiliary to host holiday dinner
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 will host a Thanksgiving dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Veterans Memorial Building, 100 E. Locust Ave.
There will be turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, dressing and all the fixings. Dinners at the door will be sold for $8 donation.

Prescribed burn puts up large plume of smoke
A prescribed burn at Vandenberg Air Force Base put up a huge head of smoke visible from the Santa Maria Valley on Thursday afternoon.
Base officials announced that the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron's Fire Protection Flight would conduct two separate burns, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Nov. 13.
The Grant Burn consists of 303 acres north of San Antonio Road West and east of the Marshallia Ranch Golf Course.
The objective of the burn is to provide data for managing the impact on local and regional air quality during a burn.
The Airfield Burn consists of 395 acres northwest of the airfield runway.
The objective of that burn is to eliminate invasive plant species such as pampas grass and other vegetation from the airfield to properly maintain the required 1,000-foot centerline clearance.
Adventure Pass not needed on Veterans Day
To mark Veterans Day on Wednesday, the U.S. Forest Service is not requiring visitors to have the Adventure Pass while in Los Padres National Forest that day as a way to honor America's veterans and military personnel. The "Fee Free Day" applies to all areas of the forest except the lower Santa Ynez recreation area, the Forest Service said.
The pass is normally required for day-use activities in most areas of the forest. Reservation fees and group site fees will still apply.

DRT to perform on the South Side Coffee
Howlin' Bryoon's Music Exchange will present a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at South Side Coffee Co. at 107 South H St.
The band DRT features a power trio lead by professional Tom Brown on guitar and vocals, aided by rhythm from Dave Gaertig on drums and Ray Schultz on bass guitar. This concert is kid-friendly and open to the public.
A donation of $2 is suggested at the door.
La Purisima to hold spaghetti, bingo fundraiser
La Purisima Concepcion Catholic School will hold its second annual Spaghetti Dinner and White Elephant Bingo from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at 337 South I St.
The $5 spaghetti dinner includes salad, garlic bread, dessert and punch. Bingo cards are $2 or three for $5. All proceeds will benefit La Purisima religious education.

Members of Nikken will host a bone seminar at 2 p.m. Saturday at Merril Gardens Community room, 1220 Suey Road in Santa Maria.

AYSO to hold fundraiser Saturday and Sunday
American Youth Soccer Organization Girls U10 and U12 will host a fundraiser selling carnitas (shredded pork) and grilled chicken tacos.
They will sell the entrees, for $2 each, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and Saturday, Nov. 14, and Sunday, Nov. 15, at Riverbend Park soccer fields.
All proceeds will help AYSO Girls U10 and U12 teams travel to compete in the 2010 National Games in Florida.
