Firefighters from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties are part of the growing team fighting a ferocious wildfire near Moorpark in Ventura County.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department sent six engines, two bulldozers and one handcrew, or 43 people, to the blaze which has already scorched 9,700 acres.

The Santa Maria and Lompoc fire departments each sent one engine to Ventura County with four Santa Maria firefighters and three Lompoc firefighters, officials said. Those crews are expected to be assigned to structure protection.

The fire, which ignited early Sunday morning, has already destroyed five homes and damaged five others.

Officials from the California Department of Forestry, which contracts as the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, say 130 firefighters from all county agencies have been dispatched to Ventura County.

Officials from all jurisdictions say despite missing crews, all stations are fully staffed.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today declared a state of emergency for Ventura County, which authorizes the Office of Emergency Services to activate the State Emergency Plan.
