An 82-year-old Lompoc man suffered moderate to major injuries this morning when he was hit by a car, apparently after running a red light on his bicycle, according to police.
The unidentified man was northbound on North L Street at West Central Avenue about 6:30 a.m. when he collided with a van westbound on Central, going 40 to 45 mph, police said.
The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was initially unresponsive and was transported to Lompoc Valley Medical Center for treatment, then transferred to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured, police said.
