If the lack of increases over the years is the reason for the current utility debt, then raising the rates was the right decision. Subsidizing the voter's utility bill is an expensive way to get a vote down the road.
I live in the Village and even after all the increses in town we'll still end up paying more up here. So count yourselves lucky that your still paying less.
Who are they kidding? 31%! How are people going to live here, I plan to move as soon as I can do so. The city bill is already high as it is! Where do the city council think we are going to get the money to pay the bills. I don't remember voting for them to vote against me. Well, come next election I voting against Siminski, Lingle and Rughe. I hope my friends do the same. I know I'm letting them all know what I intend to do and encourage them to do the same.
You know, I'm just a working stiff, like most people in this town and expect the elected people to do the right thing to enhance the town, but not put too much of the burden on the taxpaying citizens. I guess I havn't paid too much attention in what's going on as far as the city council is concerned. Well those days are over. When you've broken that mutual trust between politician and taxpayer, vote the politician that screwed you over out of office. Send them back to their original job and remember what they've done to deserve such condemnation when it comes time for election day.
What happened to the government for the people? The government has been careless with their budgets and continue to spend money like it is free. Well, I work hard for my money but lately I see everyone's hands in my pockets. Why is it that local, state, federal government think that we have deep pockets. Who do they think will continue to bail them out after we taxpayers go down? Now, with these increases, cap and trade, forloughs, pay cuts, interest rates hikes on credit cards, layoffs, etc, who will foot the bill? The government has to stop spending and budgeting like the rest of us. They need to stop wasting money and learn to do without like the rest of us. STOP THE INSANE SPENDING BEFORE WE ALL GO UNDER.
The article states that Siminski brought the motion to the floor and then said "We could have done the (31 percent) increase tonight"! He could have also thought about how tough times are for all of us and decided that there is no way we are going to raise the electric rates after just raising electric and sewer rates a few months ago. It's also funny that he acted quickly enough to get this rate hike to take effect at the beginning of next month (Dec) which means they will take advantage of those deciding to decorate their homes for Christmas. I'm very unhappy that these 3 people allowed this rate hike. I can't wait for election time. NO on Rughe , NO on Siminski and YES on Durham in 2010!
You are right, Jeb6765. I called the editor and asked why he didn't print the names of the members who voted for this ridiculous increase, and he said he assumed everyone knew who the members are. He got affended when I told him he shouldn't assume anything and hung up. Yes, Siminski, Ruhge, and Durham are up in 2010. I knew Tony Durham back in my softball days and he is an outstanding gentleman. Now, he and Martner are the only ones I trust to do the right thing for Lompoc taxpayers.
Siminski, Lingl and Rughe must have voted for it while Durham and Martner were against it. With a unanimous passage of the low income housing development on W. Ocean Ave. and now this ridiculous rate increase I show Siminski, Lingle and Rughe with -2 points and Durham and Martner with -1. Don't forget the terms for Siminski and Rughe expire in 2010, if you are unhappy with a 31% increase show them by NOT voting for them next year.

O.K. You mentioned who voted to go against the utility increase, why didn't you mention who voted for the increase? I believe the citizens of Lompoc deserve the right to know who they are, so we can remember who to vote against when the next election comes up.
