7/10/03 The Central Coast Sports Arena "Rage" 12-and-under Inline Roller Hockey team won the 6 Pac National Title in the first week of July, going undefeated in six games at the Crystal Palace sports arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Rage was the Cinderella team coming into the tournament ranked only 53rd in the nation.
The Rage opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Tomahawks of Huntington Beach, California.
Next they defeated the Stallions from Denver, Colorado by a 2-0 margin as Lindsey Wilson notched the shutout in goal for the Rage.
The Rage kept rolling as they defeated the Warriors from Mesquite Texas by a score of 8-0 in a game that ended early due to the mercy rule. Tony Orr and Taylor Jordan both had 'hat tricks' for the Rage and Wilson completed her second straight shutout in goal.
Their fourth straight victory wasn't as easy as the Rage had to come from a 2-1 deficit to beat the home town Las Vegas Titans. Ian Robertson tied the game on a long blast with less than two minutes remaining. Orr then put one past the Titans goalie with only 16.7 seconds left on the clock for the win.
The victory put the Rage into the semifinals as the #1 seed against a team from Richardson, Texas, just outside of Dallas.
The semifinal game was a real nail-biter as the Rage again had to come from behind after being down 3-2 in the second half. They scored three straight goals to pull out a 5-3 win which sent them to the championship game.
The championship game had the Rage team facing the Slapshot All-Stars, also of Richardson, Texas.
The Texans had the Rage on the run early with a 2-0 lead but the Rage managed to tie the score at the half 2-2 on goals by Tobin Flamm and Orr.
But again late in the second half the Rage found themselves with their biggest deficit, down by three goals 5-2 with less than eight minutes to play in the game.
Trevor Peterson replaced Lindsey Wilson in goal and sparked the Rage with a couple of great saves as Wilson took a break to refocus. When Wilson re-entered the game a few minutes later she was flawless.
Flamm started the comeback scoring the third Rage goal and Orr followed with one of his own off of a defenseman's skate. Then with only 36.4 seconds remaining in the game Robertson released a blistering wrist shot which was deflected off the stick of Orr and into the net for the tying goal.
After a five-minute overtime with neither team scoring there was a sudden death shootout. Robertson and Orr scored and Wilson held the All-Stars to just one goal as the CCSA Rage team became the 6 Pac National Champions.
Lompoc/s Tony Orr picked up the award for Most Valuable Player Award of the tournament.
Also scoring in the tournament for the Rage was forward Evan Spano.
The Rage couldn't have competed without the excellent defensive play from Manuel Medina, Taylor Doudna and Stevy Johnson.
