It/s been a tough week for the Cabrillo girls tennis team.
As they entered this week/s matches, the Conquistadores were tied for first place in the Los Padres League with the St. Joseph Knights.
On Tuesday, the Conqs lost 10-8 at St. Joseph and fell out of their first-place tie.
Then Thursday afternoon, the Morro Bay Pirates upset the Conqs 11-7.

The outcome, combined with a Santa Ynez victory over St. Joseph, places four teams within one match of each other at the top of the league race. St. Joseph and Santa Ynez are 9-2, Cabrillo and Morro Bay 8-3.
Without ace Ellen Monkemeier, the Conquistadores could salvage only two sets in singles as Pirates ace Alisa Royer swept. Both winning sets came from Lisa Schutz who notched 6-1 and 6-3 victories.
In doubles, the Pirates No. 1 team of Chloe Redman/Christina Miller swept to limit Cabrillo to five winning sets.
Cabrillo/s winners came from Madalyn Doudna/Elysha McLain 6-0 and 6-3, Lauren Vance/Heidi Havlicek 6-2, 6-1, and Ashley Brady/Lindsey Johnson 6-2.
Up next, Cabrillo has another key matchup 7 Santa Ynez on Tuesday.
Lompoc 13, Pioneer Valley 5
On the Lompoc courts, the Braves cut their five-match losing streak as doubles teams Crystal Hernandez/Tieana Drouillard and Amanda Chastain/Maiyer Vang swept.
Hernandez and Drouillard cruised 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 and Chastain and Vang sweated only a bit more winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.
Braves Kayla Cunningham/Janee Murray won two sets to give Lompoc eight of nine doubles sets.
In singles, Jani Carmona won twice 6-2 and 6-1 as did Courtney Stumpo 6-4 and 6-0. Sami Razon battled to 6-4 victory.
The Braves are now 2-9 in league and 3-13 overall. They play at Santa Maria Tuesday.
LPL Water polo
Cabrillo 20, Santa Maria 6
At Cabrillo, the league-leading Conquistadores ran up an 11-2 halftime lead.
Coach Joel Jory cleared the bench in the third quarter.
Alex Reyna, Joey Gullikson and Daniel McNutt led the Conqs with four goals each, while Byron Mikowicz and Nick Darling added three apiece. Wes Hain tallied two goals, while Casey Owen and Adrian Gusland each netted one.
He also pointed out that both goalies 7 Sam Ouimet and Kris Rosson 7 pulled down six blocks.
The Conqs, 5-0 in league and 13-9 overall, play PAC-5 power Righetti 7 in a contest delayed by transportation problems 7 next Tuesday night at Paul Nelson Pool in Santa Maria in a non-league encounter. The Conqs return to league play Wednesday at Lompoc.
Santa Ynez 9, Lompoc 5
At Lompoc High, the visiting second place Pirates snapped Lompoc/s two-game win streak.
The Braves held the visitors close, however, as they trailed by just 2-1 at halftime.
Bobby Geiger led SY with four goals and Hunter Hamaker added two.
For Lompoc, Beau Mabery netted three and Kyle Ericksen and Sam Holt added one apiece.
Ericksen led LHS in steals with three while Holt led in ejections drawn with three.
Hicks also noted that Lompoc goalie Kolten White blocked his sixth penalty shot of the season, a school record.
The Pirates are now 4-1, Lompoc 2-3 in the league race. Lompoc hosts league-leading Cabrillo on Wednesday.
LPL volleyball
St. Joseph 3, Cabrillo 1
At St. Joseph, the powerful Knights kept the Conquistadores on the defensive as they prevailed narrowly 27-25, 19-25, 25-22, 27-25.
The offensive firepower of the Knights was apparent in the statistics.
Jessica Kennedy amassed an amazing 50 digs of a team total of a similarly startling 234.
Jessica Shekell, Mariam Malae and Emily Bonenfant all totalled more than 30 digs.
Kennedy led the Q/s in kills with 15 and in aces with seven. Dani Guarieiro made four solo blocks.
Cabrillo travels to Morro Bay on Tuesday.
Nipomo 3, Lompoc 0
At Nipomo the league-leading Titans made short work of winless Lompoc 25-13, 25-9, 25-7.
The Braves, 0-10 in league play, host Pioneer Valley on Tuesday.
LPL freshman football
Lompoc 47, Pioneer Valley 16
At Pioneer Valley, Lompoc tailback Bobby Collins ran wild for six touchdowns. Four of those TD/s came on runs from scrimmage 7 One of 60 yards, two that went 70 and one was good from 80 yards out.
Two more came on special teams play 7 a punt return of 80 yards and a kickoff return of 90 yards.
The Braves/ Favi Vargas also scored and Daniel Hernandez booted five PAT/s as the Braves pushed their undefeated record to 7-0.
Aguilar praised the play of strong safety Charlie Fridrich and defensive lineman Saul Dominguez.
The Braves host St. Joseph next Thursday.
Cabrillo 41, Morro Bay 20
At Cabrillo, the Conquistadores also extended their record to 7-0.
Ricardo Hernandez ran for touchdowns of 25 and 30 yards.
Noah Moore returned an interception for 30 yards and a score, as did Brandon Whittaker from 50 yards.
Tony Elliott hauled in a touchdown reception of six yards from quarterback Sean Allen. Matt Stoerrle kicked five PAT/s.
