7/9/03 For the first time in Lompoc Girls Softball Association history a 10-and-under team has qualified for the ASA Nationals.

Christina Chill/s LGSA All-Stars made history June 28-29 by finishing second at the Central California Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Championships in Tulare.

"We have an awesome team," said Chill. " Our record right now is 14-2. We've placed third, first, and second in the three tournaments that we have played in."

At Tulare the Stars went 5-1 with Saturday wins over the Fresno Rage (15-0 on a no-hitter by Catrina Chill while Shandee Berryman drove in three runs on a double and single) and a shutout win over host Tulare as Brianna Vickery fired a one-hitter and struck out 10 while Berryman drove in three more.

After a 4-1 loss to Clovis the Stars rebounded with three Sunday wins.

Lompoc clubbed Lemoore 15-2 as Berryman drove in six with two doubles and a single, and Alexis Lara singled and doubled.

Then the Stars nipped Porterville 2-0 and downed Orcutt 6-3 with Berryman rapping a double and single, KileyShae Aldridge and Alexis Lara two singles each, and Mariah LaShore a double.

"Our pitchers (Catrina Chill, Aldridge, Vickery, and Megan Maddock) have shut out our opponents in six of the 14 wins," said Chill.

"On offense we have six girls batting over .400."

Shortstop Berryman is at .477, third baseman Stephany Baca .488, Maddock .437, catcher Melissa Morrison .416, second baseman Lara .404, and Catrina Chill .400.

To raise ,16,000 to travel to College Station, Texas, for Nationals, the Stars are holding a car wash at Pommerville Unocal Sunday, and selling raffle tickets at Olde Towne Market every Friday.

LGSA 12/s

The LGSA 12-year-olds under the direction of manager Bob Campitelli have qualified for ASA Western Regionals in Sacramento this weekend.

The Stars qualified June 28-29 at the Central California ASA championships in Tulare against 16 teams from Goleta to Fresno.

If they finish in the top four this weekend they qualify for their nationals to be held in Roseville.

LGSA 14/s

The LGSA 14-and-under All-Stars have also qualified for Western ASA Regionals, theirs to be held in Sunnyvale this weekend. A first or second-place finish can qualify them for nationals.

The Stars, of manager Ed Chill, are now 14-3-1 after winning the Orcutt Star Spangled Fourth of July tournament.

Lompoc dumped the Santa Maria Outlaws 9-1 in the final on two singles apiece by Leanna Corral and Megan Pouliot, a double by Ashley Forshey and a single by Casey Aldridge.

The Stars nipped the Goleta Breakers 4-3 in the semifinal after stopping Five Cities 12-2 and Clovis West 9-0.

All-Stars also won the Arroyo Grande Tournament June 21-22 by edging Visalia 6-5 in the title game.

Alyssa Mayberry singled and doubled, Suzanne Hockett, Crystal Chavez, and Alyssa Ray all singled twice to give the win to Ariel Francis.

In the semifinal the Stars downed Santa Maria 5-3 behind a triple and single by Mayberry, a double by Stacie Hesson, and singles by Hockett, Corral, and winning pitcher Sabrina Chill.

Highlight of two earlier wins was a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts by Chill.

Rebels 16-and-under

The Rebels, coached by Lompoc/s Codie Blea, plan to be in St. George, Utah, at the Western Nationals July 29-Aug. 3. The Rebels are made up of players from three local high schools77 Lompoc, Cabrillo and Arroyo Grande.

To fund their trip they have scheduled a car wash for Sunday, July 20, at Pommerville Unocal at the corner of H Street and North Avenue from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Rebels will also be doing a Tip a Rebel at Tom/s Restaurant on Tuesday, July 22 from 5-9 p.m.
