7/9/03 The cards and letters keep coming from Lompoc/s Ocean Lanes as summer bowling leagues continue.
Kings & Queens League
Four points separate seven teams. Can't get any closer than that!
Remember last week when Patricia Lewis got zipped by Joe Hernandez? Well, he did it again! Patricia shoots 263/605 only to lose to Joe's 208/607! Good grief, what's a girl got to do?
That was not the high set for the week, however. That honor goes to Shep Robinson who blasted a terrific 257/616 series. Great shooting Shep!
Old Creaky John Flores Sr. shot a bitter apple, a 216/599 set. Hey, no one shoots a 599! Maybe he needed one more shot of WD40?
The Avenger Gary Gramse hit a splendid 224/586 and Jerry Newton continued his great scoring with a 231/575. Mark Gonsalves outshot John Lewis 205/567 to 212/560 while Tommy Dodson joined the honors list, again, with a smashing 191/550.
Michael Cuthbertson outpaced his beloved, Shannon, 176/462 to 177/443 but Michael, watch out, Shannon/s getting better. Her high game was higher than yours!
Lastly, the Sandbaggers team burned Ursula's Caf/ big-time for all eight points. Augusto Rodriguez led the onslaught with a 235/576, followed by Martin Shepard (189/552) and Ed Thorns (206/546). Great shooting fellows! Just don't be surprised if your next medium hamburger comes out a tad burned around the edges.
Ladies Classic League
Six teams, five and one-half points separation. Tension every week!
Margaret Mang and Virginia Bettencourt are still clinging to the lead but it is diminishing a tad every week to where it is now a precarious 2.5 points. Can they hang on? Stay tuned.
Bubbling Bobbi Thompson pranced up and down the concourse with a huge smile after leading the league in scoring with a sensational 194/544 set.
Meanwhile, Sandy Thorns won one match point to maintain her leading point total of eleven.
However, Nita Phenicie won all three of her points to close within a half point of Sandy. Can Sandy hang on?
Grey Panthers League
One of the hardest accomplishments in all of bowling is the all-spare game, especially by a bowler who has a good average.
Joe Bousquet, a 190-plus average bowler, rolled his first-ever all-spare game last a week, a 183 masterpiece. His lips really puckered after throwing his first ball in the tenth frame for it was headed right for the one-three pocket.
The bowling Gods were with him, the ball hooked a tad high to preserve his all spare game. Joe finished with a terrific 206/586 series.
Meanwhile, Big Ben Schleuning watched with glee as his cannonball splattered pins all over the pin decks for a 235/586 to tie Joe for weekly scoring honors. Art Doherty watched helplessly as his solid stone tens and rigid four pins refused to fall. But he still fired a nice 205/577.
Andy Winston Jr. was awesome with a 200/554 while The Avenger Gary Gramse struggled a bit but still shot 20/533. Ken Martin stuffed a couple of easy spares and only shot 188/531 while Mal Gaudin stroked a splendid 186/525.
Antony Overton returned from vacation and hit a nifty 221/522 and big Harold Moore once again did serious damage to the pins shooting a thrilling 168/454 to anchor the honors list.
Wednesday Match Point League
The Silent Fury Gary Rodriguez has been in a mild slump but arose from the dead last week with a terrific 233/635. He and his partner, Julio Reyes (235/592) took over first place.
Meanwhile, two mighty forces unleashed their arsenal of equipment against the pins to score huge. Larry Craig shot a 236/693 and Robert Thompson a 268/682.
However, size isn't always everything. Ask Chino Vasquez, the league/s diminutive dynamo, who blazed a colossal 266/707 series to lead the week's scoring.
Rob Moran and Joe Bousquet fired twin 629 series while Nancy Thompson used a mighty 254 third game to shoot a nifty 618 set. Paul Ortiz was on-line with a splendid 243/613 and Alan Busse anchored the six list with a 217/608.
Some other decent scoring came from The Aged Wonder KC Corser (209/591), the Blond Amazon Glenda Reeves (234/571), and the Spirited Stroker Gina Phelps (225/566). Steve Jaeb anchored the honors list with a sensational 194/553.
Summer Fun Bunch League
Happy Holidays! The Stars and Strikes team celebrated with an 8-0 bashing of the first place team, Heavy Duty Cycles. And it wasn't even close! Paul Feeley and Ron Morrison led the Strikes with 191/540 and 180/509 series, respectively. JC Coleman's 210/499 was high for the sputtering Cycles.
Meanwhile, Larry Romero continued to do serious damage to his average stroking a magnificent 225/631 series. Victor Lizama broke six, again, this time a decent 222/607.
Chris Moseby maintained his deuce average shooting a 225/604 while The Silent Fury Gary Rodriguez subbed and subbed well with a respectable 208/578 set.
Old Creaky Flores Sr. and an almost equally old timer, Art Davis, both shot 566 series and both celebrated with a huge glass of Geritol Plus.
Jeanette Moran shot a solid 217/547 set and superstar Gina Phelps anchored the honors list with a fantastic 226/597 series.

Sandi Holder could not show to defend her title but Chris Moseby did, and sparkled, shooting telephone numbers good enough to win first place and lots of money.
Twenty-nine bowlers competed for over ,600 in prize and bracket money. Chris shot a humongous 799 series to capture first place money of ,62. He also won his share of bracket money and a side pot. A rewarding night of fun and excitement for Chris!
