Lompoc Youth Football

Teams representing all five levels of the Lompoc Youth Football League will begin their playoff drive this Saturday, Nov. 7.

The Bantam Rebels and Junior Pistons were division champions.

The league will host four of the games at Huyck Stadium. Here is a list of the games at Huyck.

9 a.m. - Bantam Rebels vs. Orcutt Panthers

11 a.m. - Junior Pistons vs. Atascadero Broncos

1 p.m. - Intermediate Santa Maria Trojans vs. Five Cities Eagles

3 p.m. - Senior Braves vs. Santa Maria Predators

Two Lompoc teams will begin on the road, also on Saturday. At 11 a.m. the Junior Panthers will face the Guadalupe Bulldogs at Paso Robles High. A 1 p.m. game at St. Joseph High will pit the Intermediate Titans against the Orcutt Bears.

Lompoc AYSO Fundraiser

Two teams from the Lompoc AYSO have been selected to play in the 2010 National Games in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Lompoc U10 and U12 girls teams have been selected in a national lottery drawing to compete.

The AYSO is now in the process of collecting donations and holding fundraisers to provide the expenses for the trip.

For the next two weekends, Saturday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 8, and also Saturday, Nov. 14 and Sunday, Nov. 15, AYSO will hold a soft taco fundraiser at the Riverbend Park soccer fields.

Tacos will be sold for $2 each from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each of those days. Carnitas (shredded pork) and grilled chicken tacos will be available.

Riverbend Park is located off North A Street and Central Ave.

Gymnastics North

There are a pair of programs coming up in November at Gymnastics North located at 1501-A East Laurel Ave. in Lompoc.

The last "Parent's Nite Out" will be held on Friday, Nov. 20 fron 6 p.m. to 8:30. Open to ages four to 13, the event includes time on the super swing, sling machine, monkey maze and tramp track. The night will also feature pizza.

The cost is $21 for non-members with a $2 sibling discount.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, there will be a Turkey Camp.

Designed for ages three to 13 a half day fee (9 a.m. -12 p.m.) or (12 p.m. - 3 p.m.) will be $20. The whole day fee (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) will be $40. A $5 sibling discount is offered. Registration must be made in advance and before Nov. 25.

Cheerleader Taco Eating Contest

In advance of the Big Game on Nov. 13 between Lompoc and Cabrillo, the two cheerleader squad from Lompoc and Cabrillo will face off in the annual taco eating contest.

The event will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 in the parking lot of the downtown Coast Hills Credit Union, located at H Street and Central Ave.

It will feature members of each squad eating tacos provided by Taco Bell in a relay format.

Last year the Lompoc cheerleaders won the contest in a close race.

Girls tennis

Lompoc 9, Santa Maria 9 (80-77 Lompoc, games)

The Braves (3-8-1 Los Padres League) edged the Saints (1-11, 2-13) in a regular season finale thanks to winning 80 games to the Saints' 77 at the Minami Center.

Korina Esqueda and Asucena Villalobos helped the Braves win by sweeping three sets at No. 1 doubles. Danielle Rivas and Glenda Polancos (singles), and the doubles team of Mitzi Estevez and Mae Roma all earned two points for the Saints.

Girls volleyball

Santa Maria 3, Lompoc 0

The Saints (1-11, 2-12) finished their season with a 30-28, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of the Braves (1-11, 2-14) in a Los Padres League match at Santa Maria's Wilson Gym.

Kate Acob led the Saints with 12 kills. Jeana Weatherhead made eight blocks and Yohari Cardona racked up 11 service points.

Erika Slikker had six kills for Lompoc. Alissa Lindemann amassed six digs and two aces, and Crystal Grover added 14 assists.

Santa Ynez 3, Cabrillo 0

The Pirates (12-0, 17-5) wrapped up an unbeaten LPL run with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-11 sweep of the Conquistadores (5-7) at Santa Ynez.

Thursday night was Santa Ynez's Seniors Night. Aly Squires pounded nine kills and served seven aces for the Pirates. Mackenzie Mexico served 12 points, including two aces.

Boys water polo

Righetti 18, SLO 8

The Warriors (9-1, 17-10) wrapped up a share of the PAC-7 League championship with ease at Sinsheimer Pool in San Luis Obispo.

Righetti has won or shared a league title 14 of the last 15 years. The Warriors and Arroyo Grande are co-champs this year just as they were last season.

Matt Johnson popped in seven goals for the Warriors Thursday. Jeremiah Morales scored four times. Goal keeper Kyle Stevens made 11 saves.

The Warriors play a non-league game against Westlake Village Oaks Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Righetti in their last tuneup before the playoffs.
