Frank Piemme, who already held 22 national swim records for his 80-5 age group, racked up two more recently.

At the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, October 5-7, the retired Lompoc engineer set new national records in the 50 (33.39) and 100 freestyle (1:19.57).

This in addition to finishing first in five other freestyle distances and in two individual medley races.

&#8220This was as usual a pleasant meet where we got to renew some old acquaintances and make new friends,C Piemme said. &#8220St. George is growing at a fantastic rate.C

Lompocan Jurgen Schmidt, with whom Piemme trains, placed second to Piemme in seven events and won two7 the 1500 freestyle and the 50 butterfly.

&#8220My time in the 1500 was faster than it was the previous Sunday,C Schmidt remarked with. On Oct. 2, I had a 27:32.71 and, on the seventh, I had 27:03.74. The last time I was faster than that was 1999. This is six years later. I feel real good about it.C

Schmidt easily could have beaten Piemme in the 800.

Schmidt mistook the finish line at the 750-mark and lost time before he realized his error.

&#8220I thought I was done but the guy said you/ve got two more lengths,C Schmidt laughed. &#8220It was fun. I enjoyed it.C

The events were held in a 25-meter pool, unlike other events where Piemme set records earlier this year. He set 12 in 25-yard pools, and 10 in 50-meter Olympic sized pools.

Next up for the two awesome octogenarians is the Southern Pacific Masters meet in Santa Clarita in November.

Piemme has been nominated by Geezerjock magazine as one of three finalists for &#8220Geezerjock of the YearC in his age group.

Lompoc fans can vote for him by going to geezerjock.com/vote on the internet.

His opposition is Trent Lane, a shot, javelin and discus thrower from Louisiana, and Milt Silverstein a runner and jumper from Virginia.

Last year Piemme was named to the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.
