Truckers drive to the top of Atlantic League

The Truckers of V&J won twice to stay atop the Atlantic League while the Homeys of Capital Pacific Homes moved a half-game ahead of idle Dunn Deal in the Pacific, as Lompoc Parks and Rec Men/s softball continues. Meanwhile in the eight team Arctic league, Men with Attitude, the Misfits, and Lompoc Honda share 3-1 records with Garrett Electric.

CP Homeys 9, T/ Pipes 7

Capital Pacific Homes and Todd Pipe traded the lead several times before the Home boys took it for good in the sixth inning. Steve Soderquist/s two doubles and a single got three runs in and Billy Lynch also tapped out three hits. CPH/s Chad Godsil homered and singled and Duane DePhillips had two hits.

Todd Pipe/s Victor Alvarez homered, tripled and singled while Rocky Bell and Abe Placencia both added two hits. Mike Hyland tripled for Todd/s.

Hawks 21, Pipes 15

VAFB got off to a 20-3 lead after four innings before Todd Pipe rallied for eight runs in the fifth. Adrian Abayari/s six RBI came off two homers, two singles and a double while Junicio Cacal knocked in four, getting two homers and two singles. Matt Pennewell and Aaron Mendoza each drove in three runs with two doubles and a single apiece.

Jose Salas hit a three-run homer for Todd with Mike Escobedo adding three scores with a triple and two singles, while Kenny Greene tripled and singled and Vic Alvarez doubled and singled.

Atlantic

V&J 19, Pod/s 11

It actually was a 10-9 game going into the final inning, when the Truckers rolled in nine runs. Jason Rose/s five RBI came off a homer and three singles, Jake Johnson/s four hits included a double, Gus Jure tagged a triple, double and two singles, and Bill Wuest doubled and singled for V&J.

Jeff Coggin hoofed out three hits while Paul Feeley got two for Valley Podiatric. Phil Ortega doubled and Dave Paretti hit a two-run single for the Pods.

V&J 20, Git-R-Done 4

The Truckers logged runs every inning, with Gus Jure and Jason Rose both driving a home run and single, while Tim Morgan and David Daugherty both tagged a double and two singles.

John Owen tapped out two hits for Git-R-Done, with additional hits from Brian Burkitt, Ken Bailey and Glen Erickson.

Amigos 23, LPOA 16

Los Amigos got out to a good start with an 11-run first, and added 10 more in the third to make sure. Çasey Brooks/ five RBI came off a home run and triple, Scott Rouleau doubled and tacked on three singles, Rodney Barcelona added two singles and a double, and Ernie Terrones rapped out three hits.

LPOA got a home run, double and single from Scott Casey, a triple and double by Kevyn Schryvers, a two-run triple from Ray Clancy and two hits by Joe Bailey.

Arctic

Honda 18, Wolf 14

Lompoc Honda/s 12-run start was matched by Wolf Electric by the second inning, but Honda pushed across six more in the third and held on. David Gentry drove in four Honda runs with a homer and double, while Kyle Hunter/s homer and double got five runs in for Wolf.

Eduardo Tamayo added three hits and Anthony Terrones two singles for Lompoc Honda, while Jeff Wolf tripled and Darren Greene doubled for Wolf Electric.

Misfits 15, Garrett 12

JK Cabinets got the lead up to 14-8 after four innings, and held on to deal Garrett Electric its first loss. Bruce Hullinger doubled and singled and Mike Keebler had two hits for the Misfits, while Chad Godsil and Jesse Benedict both tacked on run-scoring hits.

Garrett got a homer and two singles from Ryan Strange, a triple and single for Faridi Sherieff, plus RBI hits for Nick Jansen and Tom Maccianti.

MWA 17, Hackers 8

Men with Attitude scored early and often, with Vince Villa falling short of the cycle after a triple, double and single and Rudy Jazo driving in four runs with a triple and two singles. P.J. Marquez added four hits and Art Navarro a double and single for the Men.

The Lompoc Hackers got three RBI from Angelina Vasquez/ double and single while Sean Kiesling hit a triple and two singles, Nina Seay a triple and single and Owen Bacon a double and single.

Rec Basketball

The VAFB Hawks remain unbeaten after six weeks of play in Men/s Five-on-Five League at the Lompoc Boys and Girls Club. The Hawks followed up a win over the Ballers with an 88-82 win over the Knights, despite a 30-point game for the Knights/ Anthony English. Brandon Wengel scored 25 for the Hawks.

The Ballers stopped the PD Drillers 61-53, with Ron Hill hitting 16 for the Ballers and Eric Pacheco 18 for the Drillers. A week earlier, the Drillers picked up their first win upsetting the Knights.
