Pirates/ tie with Braves clinches LPL title

The margin was razor-thin, but the Santa Ynez High girls golf team scored the Los Padres League title over Lompoc on Monday when the two teams tied for the team honors in the league finals at Cypress Ridge in Nipomo.

Lompoc/s Julia Heath secured the No. 1 seed in the individual standings with a medalist round of even-par 36, followed by sister and teammate Justine Heath/s two-over 38. Rounding out the Braves/ scoring were Marianna Aceves/ round of 56, followed by Allison Schentupp/s 61 and a 69 from Citlali Rodriguez.

Santa Ynez was paced by Kayla Shaefer (48), Breanna Janicek/s 50, rounds of 52 from Kayla Jennings and Erin Gnekow, and a 58 from Lindsay Drewes.

St. Joseph finished third with a team score of 287, paced by Maranda Gaspar/s 42, a 44 from Marlee Mier and a 56 from Melissa Mier. Nancy Bentivegna shot a 65 and Ahna Dunn recorded an 80.

Santa Maria took sixth in the overall, led by Jessica Rudnik/s 52 and a 68 from Connie Guerrero. Jacquelyn Teniente shot a 69, followed by Sayuri Moriuchi/s 78 and a 78 from Jessica Becerra.

Nipomo/s fourth-place finish was led by a 52 from Kendall Rosales, followed by Corie Nightingale/s 52 and a 58 from Jacqui Hertel. Breeanna Braynt and Julianna Johnson rounded out the top five with a 60 and 68, respectively.

Cabrillo/s lone entry was Kellie George, who shot a 51.

The individual overall rankings were the Heaths, Gaspar, Mier, Santa Ynez/s Anthea Marette, Cabrillo/s George, Gnekow, Rudnik, Rosales and Jennings.
