RENO 8 Cabrillo High School graduate Vai Taua had another fine game for the University of Nevada last Saturday in the Wolfpack?s 44-17 Western Athletic Conference victory over Utah State.
The sophomore ran for 122 yards on 17 carries and scored on a 26-yard run in the first quarter as Nevada improved to 2-1 in the WAC and 4-3 overall.
For the season Taua has carried the ball 115 times for 736 yards, an average of 6.4 yards per carry. The total yardage ranks him 18th in the NCAA Football Subdivision and his 105.1 average per game leads the WAC.
The Utah State game was the fourth time this season that Taua has rushed for over 100 yards. His 9.4 points per game ties him for the lead on the team in scoring per game with the Wolfpack quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
This week the Wolfpack travels to Honolulu to take on the University of Hawaii Warriors.
Boo Jackson faces Owls tonight
Lompoc High school grad Boo Jackson leads the Ohio University Bobcats against the Temple University Owls in a nationally televised Mid-American Conference clash tonight in Philadelphia.
The junior quarterback led the Bobcats (2-4) to a 26-19 victory over Kent State last Saturday, Oct. 11, in Ohio U?s last game. Jackson threw for 203 yards on 16-for-26 passing and had a 9-yard touchdown run in the win.
Tonight?s game is the first of two straight Tuesday night games for OU. Next tuesday night they host the University of Buffalo.
Tonight?s game is on ESPN2 beginning at 5 p.m.
High School Golf
Braves sink the Pirates
Three of the Lompoc Braves shot personal records Monday afternoon while leading the Braves to a 290-318 victory over the Morro Bay Pirates in a Los Padres League girls golf match at the Morro Bay Golf Club.
The Braves? Jocelyn Caudillo was the day?s medalist with a personal best round of 50 in the 9-hole match.
Ali Wilson (58) and Anna Clark (63) also had their lowest rounds ever in the match.
Kaleigh Goethe (54) and Julietta Solis (65) rounded out the Braves? scoring.
The Pirates were led by Jill Steinman (55) and Shanna Cro (56).
The victory improves Lompoc?s record to 2-2 in league dual meets (2-5 overall) good for fourth place in the league.
Lompoc is back in action Thursday afternoon at the weekly LPL all-league match. This week?s tournament is hosted by Santa Ynez at the Alisal River Course.

It was another outstanding offensive show displayed by the Conqs as they moved to 6-1. The offense compiled 255 yards on 28 carries, while averaging 9.1 yards per carry and scoring four touchdowns. The defense earned it?s second shutout of the season.
The Conqs will battle for the Divisional championship against the Santa Maria Cougars, also 6-1 8 this Saturday at 9 a.m.

The first goal of the game came from Itzel Cortez just 15 seconds in. Brianna Farley scored the second goal on a long shot from 30 feet away. Goalkeeper Maria Chavez registered the shutout.

Lompoc Girls Softball Registration
Lompoc Girls Softball Registration is coming soon for the Lompoc Girls Softball League. All sign-ups will be held at the VTC offices, located at 124 North I St.
Early Bird sign-ups, featuring a ,5 discount will be on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Regular registration and scholarships will be available on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Scholarships are available to low income players 8 the fee will be based on income.
Another regular registration day will be held on Tuesdays, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A last chance late registration day will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10.
The Fee for all players is ,100 with a ,5 sibling discount and includes a ,30 refundable fundraiser.
Lompoc Girls Softball is open to all girls ages 5 to 17 as of Jan. 1, 2009. A birth certificate is required at registration.
