7/14/03 Lompoc/s Cheri Hoffman Realty Titans got revenge for their Easter Sunday defeat at the hands of Club Ario of Lompoc by dumping the Growers 16-5 in seven innings Sunday at River Bend Park.

The win lifts Ernie Gonzales/ T-men to 5-6 and cements Club Ario even further into the Santa Barbara Baseball League basement at 1-10.

Winning pitcher Mani Escobedo gave up only one earned run in tossing the complete game and powered a three-run home run besides.

Others contributing to the 19-hit blitzkrieg were Corey Nix with three hits including a double, manager Gonzales with three and Daniel Ochoa with three.

Efren Gutierrez laced two hits as did Danny Terrones and Michael Escobedo.

"We made too many errors again, but we won the game," said Gonzales.

Cubs 12, Bandits 7

The woes of the Lompoc Bandits continued at Eddie Mathews Field in Santa Barbara as they fell to the SB Cubs.

After winning their first five games the Bandidos have now lost five of their last six to fall to 6-5.

Manager Mike Bennett cracked three hits including a double and John Salter had two with a double.

"We had seven errors," groaned Bennett. "We had to play guys out of position."

Lockstep in LASL

Lockstep was the order of the day in the Lompoc Amateur Soccer League Sunday.

Every favored team won, every team not favored lost.

Save one.

La Coruna, a onetime power in the LASL, was seemingly destined to be a doormat this season after playing to a dismal 1-7-2 record after ten games.

But Sunday the C-men nipped fourth place Santa Monica 3-2 to post their fourth win in fives and lift themselves to 5-7-3.

In other games league-leading Ario stopped Cruz Verde 2-1, La Piedad spanked Pumas 5-1 with two goals each by Victor Islas and Javi Calderon, Mexiquense nipped last place San Pancho 3-2, and La Michoacana stopped Hidalgo 2-1 despite a goal by Luis Figueroa.
